Bringing customised Australian electrical training to Indonesia
JAKARTA, 26 February 2024 – Indonesian electricians will soon be able to access high quality customised electrotechnology training, under a new partnership between Melbourne-based Holmesglen Institute and Indonesia’s leading electrical, fire and mechanical service contractor, PT ODG Nusantara Jaya (ODG).
Over the next five years, ODG will work in partnership with Victoria state government-owned Holmesglen Institute to run a new electrical training facility in Jakarta, which will offer customised electrical training for ODG staff before gradually expanding to the public with the target market of Indonesian companies in the mining services sector. The new facility will help Indonesia respond to growing demand for skills in mining, manufacturing, oil and gas, and industrial sectors, build the skills of the local workforce, and increase productivity and safety across all industries.
“We need to build a qualified workforce to safely deliver high-quality installations and meet Indonesia’s demands as we modernise and develop. We’re excited to work with Katalis and such an esteemed training provider as Australian Holmesglen Institute to provide local vocational training that meets the high standards of the mining and manufacturing industry,” said Peter Zamparutti, Operations Manager, PT ODG Indonesia.
With over 41 years of experience delivering technical, vocational education and training, Holmesglen Institute is one of Australia’s most highly regarded training institutions. More than 23,000 learners attend Holmesglen’s six campuses annually to study across 43 fields at senior secondary, technical, vocational education & training (TVET) and higher education levels.
“Holmesglen is pleased to partner with Katalis and ODG to provide high quality customised electrotechnology training that will support growing industries in Indonesia and the development of a high quality workforce. We are committed to supporting the communities in our region and their economic development. Holmesglen is proud to help promote pathways to employment that improve the livelihoods of Indonesians,” said Mary Faraone, Chief Executive, Holmesglen Institute.
The partnership is being facilitated by Katalis, a business development program set up by the Indonesian and Australian Governments to support implementation of the Indonesia-Australia Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement. It provides a model for future commercial partnerships across various industries and encourages greater investment in Indonesia by Australian TVET providers.
“While Australian TVET providers have generally operated successfully throughout the Asia Pacific and Middle East, they remain underrepresented in Indonesia. This new partnership serves as yet another example for Australian training providers to consider the Indonesian market and, similarly to other Indonesian businesses to look to Australia for their skills needs,” said Paul Bartlett, Director, Katalis.
The new facility will include a particular focus on ensuring women are supported to participate in the training and as tradespeople in the field, as ODG will endeavour to allocate places for women teachers and trainees.
