Supporting Indonesian exporters to set their sights on Australia
TANGERANG SELATAN, 12 October 2024 – Indonesian exporters have been given a better footing to access lucrative opportunities in Australia today, with a business forum on the sidelines of Trade Expo Indonesia 2024 boosting understanding of Australia’s trade regulations and strengthening networks.
Facilitated by the Indonesian Embassy in Canberra and the Indonesia-Australia Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (IA-CEPA) Economic Cooperation Program Katalis, the forum “The Best of Indonesia and Australia” provided firsthand guidance for Indonesia’s exporters to navigate Australia’s import regulations and processes, to better leverage the growing potential for trade between Australia and Indonesia.
The event was the third collaboration between the Indonesian Embassy in Canberra and Katalis. Hosted on the sidelines of Indonesia’s largest annual trade forum, the event highlighted the significant potential of the bilateral trade relationship between Indonesia and Australia.
When delivering his keynote speech at the forum, Indonesian Deputy Trade Minister Dr Jerry Sambuaga said, “There is much room for improvement when it comes to pushing for closer trade ties between Indonesia and Australia. We are ready to facilitate and expedite business and trade activities towards a more substantive and strategic partnership, to benefit both sides.”
Expanding bilateral market access is a key focus for Katalis, which is now in its fourth year of implementation. Katalis has delivered a range of support for Indonesian exporters to understand and access Australia’s market, including resources for Indonesian premium chocolate producers to enter Australia.
“Australia offers many opportunities for Indonesian exporters looking to expand their global footprint, but a key challenge is to understand the regulations and standards that apply. The information shared at this forum, and in other resources, form an important part of support from the government in helping Indonesian exporters to understand these regulations and how to comply, so their businesses can thrive,” said Agung Haris Setiawan, Indonesian Trade Attache in Canberra.
“Navigating regulatory and policy settings in a potential market is as important as understanding customer needs, and is key for a business seeking to expand overseas. The IA-CEPA already provides an excellent foundation for Indonesian and Australian businesses looking to connect, and we look forward to continuing to support stronger partnerships and accelerated growth in bilateral trade and investment,” said Paul Bartlett, Director, IA-CEPA Economic Cooperation Program Katalis.
Katalis was established by the Indonesian and Australian governments to provide support and expertise for Indonesian and Australian businesses in accordance with the IA-CEPA, particularly to drive closer trade and investment collaboration.
