Katalis partners with Traveloka to provide digital literacy training for the tourism industry
SURABAYA, 8 July 2024 – Indonesia’s tourism industry will be better prepared for the digital era, with a new training course on digital literacy commencing today out of a partnership between Katalis, a government-backed business development program, and Traveloka, Southeast Asia’s leading travel platform. This collaboration signifies a major step forward in preparing the industry for the digital era. The program aims to open opportunities for Australian training providers to engage with Traveloka’s platform and enhance Indonesia’s tourism sector by providing a solid foundation to thrive in the modern tourism market.
The training program includes modules covering digital security and ethics, digital marketing, and the use of digital platforms intended to advance participants’ understanding of the digital landscape. Katalis is collaborating with TAFE Queensland to deliver high-quality training to address the skills gap in Indonesia’s tourism industry and facilitate the participation of disadvantaged groups in Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET) courses. The program also aims to increase the number of high-quality tourism villages to attract domestic and international tourists. Upon graduation, the eligible micro, small, medium enterprises (MSMEs) participants can join Traveloka through the Traveloka Xperience platform as partners and offer their products and services on the global platform.
Thirty individuals have been chosen to participate in a five-day training starting today at Ciputra University. The participants include lecturers, students, MSMEs, tourism operators, tourism village practitioners, and representatives of the Surabaya City and East Java Provincial Governments.

Previously, Traveloka has conducted digital skills training for Indonesia’s tourism businesses, including its flagship Desa Wisata programs, in collaboration with the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy.

With women accounting for 55 percent of the workforce in the Indonesian tourism industry, this new initiative has the potential to benefit female-led businesses and communities.
Through the Traveloka Xperience platform, Katalis has pioneered commercial partnerships with Australian training providers, including Melbourne Polytechnic.
